6th Badminton Asia Team Championships Get Underway in Qingdao
The sixth edition of the Badminton Asia Team Championships has officially commenced in Qingdao, China, bringing together the continent’s top men’s and women’s national squads for a week of high-intensity competition.
The prestigious tournament features elite teams from across Asia battling for supremacy in both categories, with several powerhouses expected to make deep runs in the championship.
Indian Women Face Tough Group Challenge
India’s women’s team will open their title defence without two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, who has withdrawn from the event. Despite her absence, the squad remains competitive and has been placed in Group Y alongside fourth-seeded Thailand and Myanmar.
The Indian lineup includes Tanvi Sharma, Unnati Hooda, Malvika Bansod, and the experienced doubles combination of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who are expected to anchor the side through the group stages.
Men’s Team Drawn in Group C
The Indian men’s contingent has been slotted into Group C, where they will face stiff opposition from fourth seeds Japan and Singapore.
Leading the challenge for India are singles stars Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, and Kidambi Srikanth, along with the formidable doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.
Campaign Begins Tomorrow
Both the men’s and women’s Indian teams are set to begin their respective campaigns tomorrow as the group-stage action intensifies in Qingdao.
With several Asian heavyweights in contention, fans can expect closely fought encounters, tactical battles, and standout performances as the tournament unfolds.
