India Emphasises Social Justice as Pillar of Viksit Bharat at UN Forum
India underscored the central role of social justice in its long-term development agenda during a major United Nations forum in New York. Speaking at the 64th session of the Commission for Social Development, the country’s delegation highlighted how inclusive growth, dignity, and equity form the foundation of its national vision.
Leading the delegation, the Minister of State for Women and Child Development explained that India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap is built around a rights-based and people-first approach to governance. The emphasis, she said, is on ensuring that progress reaches every segment of society.
Inclusive Development at the Core
India’s presentation focused on policies designed to reduce inequality and strengthen social security systems. The delegation pointed out that access to food supplies for hundreds of millions of citizens and large-scale public healthcare coverage remain among the country’s flagship social initiatives.
According to the minister, these programmes reflect a broader philosophy of collective progress, ensuring that vulnerable communities are not left behind as the nation grows.
Support for Women and Marginalised Groups
Special attention was drawn to schemes benefiting women, children, and disadvantaged populations. India also highlighted the expansion of digital platforms that enable faster and more transparent delivery of welfare services, reducing barriers for those in remote or underserved areas.
The delegation noted that technology-driven governance has become a key tool in strengthening social inclusion and accountability.
Commitment to Global Social Justice
India reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation on social development and equality, stressing that its domestic policies align with broader global goals of fairness and opportunity.
Officials concluded by stating that social justice remains inseparable from India’s economic ambitions, and that sustainable growth can only be achieved when development is equitable and participatory.
