Rajnath Singh Reaffirms Growing India–EU Defence Partnership

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Stresses Strengthening Ties With European Union

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday underlined India’s expanding strategic relationship with the European Union, describing it as an important pillar of cooperation in an increasingly complex global security environment.

During a meeting with a high-level European Union delegation in New Delhi, Mr Singh said closer engagement between India and the EU is essential for advancing defence collaboration and promoting stability across regions.

Focus on Defence Cooperation and Global Security

The Defence Minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace and international security, noting that constructive partnerships with like-minded regions play a crucial role in addressing emerging challenges. He added that the evolving relationship with the EU reflects shared interests in maintaining a secure and rules-based global order.

Discussions between the two sides reportedly covered areas such as technology exchange, maritime security, capacity building and joint initiatives in the defence sector.

EU Calls Agreement a Milestone

European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas welcomed the progress in bilateral ties, calling the recent security and defence partnership a landmark step. She said the agreement is expected to deepen strategic cooperation and open new avenues for collaboration between Indian and European defence establishments.

Officials from both sides expressed confidence that the partnership would expand over time, contributing to stronger institutional links and greater coordination on regional and global security matters.

The meeting in New Delhi reflects India’s broader push to diversify defence partnerships while reinforcing its role as a key player in international peace and stability efforts.
