Rajnath Singh Inaugurates EV Vehicle Factory in Lucknow, Highlights Defence Sector Growth

EV Vehicle Factory Inaugurated in Lucknow

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday inaugurated a new electric vehicle manufacturing factory in the Sarojini Nagar area of Lucknow, marking another step towards strengthening India’s domestic industrial and defence ecosystem.

Focus on Self-Reliance in Defence Production

Addressing the gathering, the Defence Minister said that India’s defence sector is steadily moving towards self-reliance. He highlighted that policy reforms and simplified procedures introduced by the government have significantly boosted investor confidence and encouraged industrial growth.

Sharp Rise in Defence Manufacturing Output

Rajnath Singh pointed out that annual defence production has seen remarkable growth in recent years. What once stood at around Rs. 46,000 crore has now surged to nearly Rs 1.5 lakh crore, reflecting the impact of sustained reforms and indigenous manufacturing initiatives.

Defence Exports Register Strong Growth

The Defence Minister also underlined the sharp increase in defence exports. From a modest Rs 1,000 crore annually in the past, exports have now risen to approximately Rs 25,000 crore, showcasing India’s growing credibility in the global defence market.

Ambitious Export Targets Ahead

Expressing optimism, he said the government expects defence exports to cross Rs 50,000 crore by the year 2029–30, driven by innovation, private sector participation, and stronger manufacturing capabilities.

Senior Leaders Present at the Event

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who joined the Defence Minister in emphasising the importance of industrial development and employment generation in the region.
