PM Modi Launches ₹830 Crore Development Projects in Singur, Hooghly

PM Modi Unveils Development Projects Worth ₹830 Crore in Singur, Hooghly

Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth more than ₹830 crore at Singur in the of West Bengal. Addressing a large public gathering, the Prime Minister highlighted the Centre’s commitment to accelerating development in eastern India as a key pillar of building a developed nation.

Focus on Eastern India’s Growth

During his address, the Prime Minister stated that the progress of eastern states plays a crucial role in India’s overall growth story. Referring to his recent visits to Malda and Hooghly, he said that infrastructure projects worth hundreds of crores are currently underway across West Bengal to enhance connectivity, mobility, and economic opportunities.

Major Boost to Rail Connectivity:

New Trains Flagged Off

Highlighting major rail initiatives, the Prime Minister noted that the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train was launched from West Bengal recently. He also pointed out that the state has already received several Amrit Bharat Express services as part of efforts to modernise rail travel.

On the occasion, Mr Modi flagged off three additional Amrit Bharat Express trains, improving long-distance connectivity between and Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi, Banaras, and Tambaram in Tamil Nadu.

Port-Led and Waterway Development Push

The Prime Minister underlined the Centre’s focus on port-led and inland waterway-based development in Bengal. He said these initiatives would help transform the state into a major hub for manufacturing, trade, and logistics while also creating new employment opportunities.

Extended Port Gate System at Balagarh

Mr Modi laid the foundation stone for the Extended Port Gate System at Balagarh, a large-scale project that includes an inland water transport terminal and a road overbridge. Spread across nearly 900 acres, the facility is designed as a modern cargo handling hub with an annual capacity of 2.7 million tonnes.

The Prime Minister said the project would ease congestion in Kolkata by diverting heavy cargo traffic, improve logistics efficiency, and unlock fresh economic potential for Hooghly and nearby regions.

Eco-Friendly River Transport Initiative

In another key initiative, the Prime Minister launched a state-of-the-art electric catamaran in Kolkata to promote environmentally friendly urban river transport. The project is also expected to boost river-based tourism along the Hooghly.

Employment and Community Benefits

According to the Prime Minister, the combined impact of these projects will benefit farmers, fishermen, small traders, and transporters. He added that the initiatives are expected to generate large-scale employment and strengthen the region’s economic ecosystem.
