North India Faces Severe Cold Wave

North India is currently experiencing an intense cold wave, with temperatures dropping significantly across various states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that these extreme cold conditions will persist through early January 2025, impacting several regions including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

Regional Updates:

  • Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: Due to the cold wave and heavy rainfall, authorities have announced the closure of all schools for students in Classes 1 to 8 from December 28 to December 30, 2024. For higher grade students, classes will not start before 9:00 AM during this period.

  • Haryana: The Directorate of School Education has declared a winter break for all private and government schools from January 1 to January 15, 2025. Schools will reopen on January 16, 2025. However, students in Classes 10 and 12 may be required to attend school for practical exams as per the schedules from CBSE and ICSE boards.

  • Delhi: Schools in the national capital will remain closed for winter vacation from January 1 to January 15, 2025.

  • Punjab: Schools are observing winter holidays from December 24 to December 31, 2024.

The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and potential snowfall in isolated areas, particularly in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Thunderstorms, accompanied by hail and lightning, are expected in regions such as Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh. Residents are advised to take all necessary precautions to stay warm and safe during this period.
