Narendra Modi Says India Ready for Global Competition and Economic Leap in Rajya Sabha

PM Modi Projects Confidence in India’s Global Rise and Economic Momentum

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said India is firmly prepared to compete on the global stage and is steadily advancing toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy. Responding to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, he highlighted a series of reforms and policy initiatives that, according to him, have strengthened the country’s growth trajectory.

The Prime Minister reiterated his government’s guiding mantra of “Reform, Perform and Transform,” adding that India has boarded what he described as a “Reform Express” aimed at accelerating development across sectors.

Trade Agreements and Manufacturing Push

Referring to recent trade negotiations, Modi said India has finalised agreements with nine countries and concluded what he called a landmark pact with the European Union bloc. He also spoke about deepening economic ties with the United States and other partners.

He added that the country has built a stronger manufacturing ecosystem while encouraging entrepreneurship, and that India’s youthful workforce has made it an attractive destination for global investment. In a rapidly shifting world order, he said, India is increasingly being viewed as a dependable international partner.

Economic Performance and Political Sparring

Citing the President’s address to Parliament, the Prime Minister said recent months had seen rapid progress toward the long-term Viksit Bharat vision. He pointed to relatively high growth among major economies and moderating inflation as indicators of economic resilience.

He also drew comparisons with earlier administrations, saying that before 2014 India had been grouped among vulnerable economies, whereas it is now positioned to climb further in global rankings.

Other Voices in the Debate

During the discussion, members from across parties shared differing assessments of government performance. A Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker highlighted expansion in rural healthcare through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and large-scale direct income support to farmers under central schemes.

She added that national foodgrain output has crossed new records and that India has emerged as the world’s leading rice producer.

An Aam Aadmi Party representative criticised what he described as the misuse of institutions, while a Telugu Desam Party member praised reforms under the Goods and Services Tax regime. He also acknowledged progress in poverty reduction and the extension of tap-water connections under national programmes.

Focus on Long-Term Development

The wide-ranging debate reflected contrasting political views but also underscored the central role economic policy and welfare delivery continue to play in parliamentary discourse.

As the government presses ahead with its development agenda, the Prime Minister maintained that reforms, trade partnerships and demographic advantages would keep India on a strong upward path in the years ahead.
