Bangladesh Mob Lynching: Father of Hindu Youth Describes Brutal Killing in Mymensingh

A shocking incident of mob violence has emerged from Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district, where a 27-year-old Hindu man was lynched during widespread unrest following the death of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi. The victim’s father has spoken publicly, describing the attack as brutal and expressing despair over the lack of reassurance from authorities.

Father Recounts Horrifying Details

The deceased has been identified as Dipu Chandra Das. His father, Ravilal Das, said the family first learned about the incident through social media before receiving confirmation from relatives. According to his account, Dipu was severely assaulted by a mob, restrained, and later killed in an act of extreme violence.

Ravilal Das described the aftermath as devastating, stating that his son’s body was left at the scene. He added that the family has yet to receive any direct assurance or support from government officials following the incident.

Arrests Made, Government Condemns Violence

Bangladesh’s interim administration confirmed that seven people have been arrested in connection with the killing. The arrests were carried out by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) following operations at multiple locations.

Authorities issued a statement condemning the lynching, stating that such acts of violence have no place in the country and that those responsible would be brought to justice.

Unrest Spreads After Political Leader’s Death

The killing occurred amid escalating unrest across Bangladesh after the death of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Protests erupted in several regions, some of which reportedly took on anti-India tones, with demonstrations near Indian diplomatic offices in Dhaka and other cities.

Media organizations were also targeted, with offices of multiple newspapers coming under attack during the disturbances.

India Raises Security Concerns

In response to the deteriorating situation, India summoned Bangladesh’s high commissioner earlier this week. New Delhi conveyed concerns regarding the safety of its diplomatic missions and the broader security environment in the neighbouring country.
