Strong Opening Despite Mixed Word of Mouth
Trade estimates suggest that the film benefited from massive advance bookings and fan-driven footfalls, particularly in Telugu-speaking states. While reviews remained divided, audience curiosity and Prabhas’ star power ensured an explosive start at the global box office.
The impressive Day 1 performance underlines the actor’s ability to draw crowds irrespective of genre or critical response.
Comparison With Prabhas’ Previous Blockbuster
Although the opening figures are remarkable, The Raja Saab still trails Prabhas’ previous release, Kalki 2898 AD. The sci-fi epic had registered a phenomenal ₹191 crore worldwide on its first day in 2024 and eventually amassed over ₹1100 crore during its theatrical run.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had earlier highlighted Kalki’s strong nationwide performance, noting impressive turnout across Tier-2 and Tier-3 centres despite major sporting events clashing with its release.
The Raja Saab Halts Dhurandhar’s Box Office Run
The arrival of The Raja Saab has also slowed down the momentum of Dhurandhar, which enjoyed a dominant run for over a month. After crossing ₹1200 crore globally, Dhurandhar saw a sharp drop in collections following Prabhas’ film hitting theatres.
On its 36th day, Dhurandhar reportedly managed collections of around ₹3.5 crore, indicating a clear shift in audience attention.
About the Film
Directed by Maruthi and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad under the People Media Factory banner, The Raja Saab features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, and Zarina Wahab.
Sharing his experience, Prabhas described the project as a passion-driven entertainer, praising Maruthi’s writing and the film’s unique climax. He expressed hope that the movie would resonate with audiences during the festive Sankranti season.
Critical Reception
Critics have been divided in their assessment of the film. While some appreciated its attempt to blend horror and humour, others felt the execution lacked depth, suggesting the genre deserved a more refined treatment.
Despite the criticism, The Raja Saab has already proven that Prabhas remains a formidable force at the box office.
