Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Unveiled in India With AWD and Premium Features
Volkswagen India has revealed its new flagship SUV for the domestic market — the Tayron R-Line — a seven-seat model designed to showcase the brand’s focus on performance, technology and luxury. Sitting above the company’s current SUV lineup, the Tayron R-Line aims to make a strong statement in the full-size premium segment.
Powertrain and Drivetrain
Under the bonnet, the Tayron R-Line is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine delivering 201bhp and 320Nm of torque. The motor is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and comes with Volkswagen’s all-wheel-drive system as standard, promising confident performance across varying road conditions.
Sporty Exterior Design
The R-Line treatment brings a host of visual upgrades that give the Tayron a more aggressive stance. These include bespoke front and rear bumpers, R-Line badging on the grille and doors, and large 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Lighting technology is another highlight, with HD Matrix LED headlamps featuring adaptive cornering functions, illuminated Volkswagen logos at both ends, and LED tail lamps offering multiple lighting signatures.
High-Tech and Luxurious Cabin
Inside, the Tayron R-Line boasts a fully digital layout dominated by a massive 15-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system. Passenger comfort is elevated with features such as ventilated front seats that also offer memory and massage functions, a panoramic sunroof, and three-zone climate control.
The ambience is enhanced by 30-colour interior lighting, while audio duties are handled by a premium Harman Kardon system with 11 speakers.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Volkswagen has equipped the Tayron R-Line with an extensive safety package. The SUV comes with Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, nine airbags including a central airbag, a 360-degree camera and Park Assist Plus for semi-automated parking.
Expected Rivals in India
Once launched, the Tayron R-Line will take on established players in the full-size SUV category such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian.
Volkswagen is expected to announce pricing and launch timelines in the coming months, which will determine how aggressively the Tayron R-Line is positioned against its competitors.
