KTM India is preparing to expand its adventure motorcycle lineup with the launch of the KTM 390 Adventure R, scheduled for January 2026. Designed as the most off-road-capable variant in the 390 Adventure range, the new R version is aimed at riders seeking enhanced trail performance and rugged touring ability.
Bookings for the motorcycle are expected to open shortly, with customer deliveries likely to begin soon after its official launch.
Built for Serious Off-Road Riding
The KTM 390 Adventure R stands apart from the standard model with its longer suspension travel and increased ground clearance. The motorcycle features 230 mm suspension travel, significantly more than the regular version, allowing it to handle rough terrain with greater ease.
It also boasts a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel, a setup preferred by off-road enthusiasts for improved stability on dirt and gravel. The taller stance results in a seat height of 870 mm, making it better suited for experienced riders.
Suspension and Hardware Upgrades
The Adventure R is equipped with WP Apex adjustable suspension at both ends. Up front is a 43 mm open-cartridge fork with compression and rebound adjustment, while the rear gets a split-piston monoshock with preload and rebound control. These upgrades ensure better adaptability across varied riding conditions.
While the international version uses spoke wheels paired with enduro-focused tyres, the final tyre specification for the India-bound model is yet to be confirmed.
Engine and Performance
Powering the KTM 390 Adventure R is the familiar 399 cc single-cylinder engine, producing 45.3 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 39 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The motorcycle features a 14-litre fuel tank and weighs 176 kg (kerb), making it lighter than the standard 390 Adventure despite its added off-road hardware.

Expected Price and Market Position
Although official pricing has not been announced, the KTM 390 Adventure R is expected to be priced at around ₹4.15 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, KTM will offer three variants in the 390 Adventure lineup—X, Standard, and R—catering to a wide range of adventure riders.
With new competitors like the BMW F 450 GS expected to enter the segment in 2026, KTM’s diversified approach could strengthen its position in the mid-size adventure motorcycle market.
